Description
Proof American Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Set (Random Year)
From 1997 to 2008, the United States Mint issued the Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins in four total weights. While it was common for the US Mint to issue four-coin sets with all options available in a limited issue, it was rare for the US Mint to issue two–coin proof sets. The most prominent example of this came in 2007 when the US Mint marked the 10th anniversary of the American Platinum Eagle Series. Right now, Proof American Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Sets are available to you for purchase online.
Coin Set Highlights:
- Arrives inside of a wooden display box from the US Mint!

Each Proof American Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Set comes with two individual 1/2 oz platinum coins. The set features capsules for each coin and a wooden presentation display from the United States Mint. Also available with each set is a Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint.
The most notable example of a Proof Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Set is the 10th-Anniversary Set released by the mint in 2007. This collection did not feature unique designs on the reverse separate of the traditional proof releases that year. Instead, the US Mint marked the 10th anniversary of the program by issuing a limited number of these sets with a traditional cameo-proof coin and a one-of-a-kind reverse proof Platinum Eagle. The reverse proof was the first of its kind in the Platinum Eagle Series and boasted mirrored design elements overlaying a frosted background field.
The obverse side of Proof American Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Sets comes with an image of the Statue of Liberty. Created for this series in 1997 by John Mercanti, this visual of Liberty depicts the statue’s head and crown. It was used on the Proof Platinum Eagle from 1997 to 2017 and continues to feature on the obverse of the BU Platinum Eagle.
On the reverse face of Proof Platinum Eagle 2-Coin Sets is a depiction of an American bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest. The shield bears a cluster of 13 stars and a banner reading “Freedom.” This release was part of the 2006-2008 Foundations of Democracy design program reflecting the three branches of the federal government. The 2007 release celebrates the Executive Branch.
