The Proof American Gold Eagles are available in four weights each year ranging from a 1 oz gold coin to a 1/10 oz gold coin. The series is unique in that all four weights were introduced at different times. The first of those was, however, the 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle. In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the American Gold Eagle Series. The collection initially featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold BU coins. That same year saw the release of a 1 oz proof coin. The remaining proof coins were issued in 1987 (1/2 oz) and 1988 (1/4 oz and 1/10 oz).

In 2022, the Proof American Gold Eagle is available for the first full year with the new reverse design from Jennie Norris. This image was designed in 2020 and introduced midway through 2021 as part of the 35th anniversary of the series.

Lady Liberty is on the obverse side of 2022-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagles. This design comes from Augustus Saint-Gaudens and was originally created in 1907 for the $20 Gold Double Eagle The design shows Liberty’s full-length figure in front-facing relief with a torch held aloft in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. The design includes sun rays from the horizon, the U.S. Capitol Building, and a ring of stars.

An American bald eagle is depicted in the reverse design of 2022 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins. This design from Jennie Norris shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief and offers incredible layers of detail in the design.

These 2022-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins arrive in protective plastic capsules with a black presentation box from the United States Mint. The coin and box come with a US Mint shipper and feature a Certificate of Authenticity.
