Since its inception in 1997, the Proof Platinum Eagles have offered collectors a new design on one side of the coin. As mentioned above, it was originally the image of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse that never changed, while the reverse offered ever-changing images of American symbols.
In 2018, the US Mint changed the obverse side of the coin to offer new designs each year, while stabilizing the reverse field with select images. This common American eagle image is now static on the reverse of the coins.
An oak tree begins to blossom in the obverse design of 2022-W Proof Platinum Eagle Coins. The obverse designs in the new First Amendment to the United States Constitution design program follow the lifecycle of the mighty oak as it starts out as a seed and grows into a mature tree.
