The Proof American Platinum Eagle Series is unique at the United States Mint in that its designs are ever-changing. From 1997 to 2017, the collection featured the same obverse design of Liberty with new designs of the American bald eagle or other symbols of governance and Americana on the reverse. Starting in 2018, a new series brought new designs to the obverse with a steady reverse design of the American bald eagle. The collection now has a new five-coin design series launching in 2021. In 2021, the United States Mint issues the new First Amendment to the United States Constitution Series in the Proof Platinum Eagle release. The obverse of the coins will feature a new design with each release focusing on the five freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The reverse of the coins will continue with American bald eagle design that was introduced in 2018 and designed by Patricia Lucas-Morris.

All of these 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins are available to purchase with a protective plastic capsule housing the coin. The coin and its capsule are available with a black presentation box that features an outer shipper with the obverse design reflected on its cover. The coins come with a Certificate of Authenticity as well.

On the obverse of 2021-W Proof American Platinum Eagles is a depiction of the Liberty tree as it sprouts from an acorn. The first release of the series celebrates the Freedom of Religion guaranteed in the First Amendment. The young oak tree is sprouting from a single acorn resting on the ground. The new obverse design in the series comes from Donna Weaver, a contributing artist in the Artistic Infusion Program at the United States Mint. Her initials feature on this field of the coin, along with the initials of sculptor Don Everhart.

The reverse field of 2021-W 1 oz Proof Platinum Eagles features the now-common reverse design element. Created for the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Series (2018-2020), the image features a bald eagle swooping into view with its wings reaching out wide as its talons clutch an olive branch.
