Canada’s national symbol is the sugar maple leaf, and it has been used on the popular Canadian Maple Leaf coin series since 1979 when the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf was introduced. Almost a decade later, the first Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was introduced. These unique Maple Leaf Forever coins celebrate the national symbol in a whole new way.
The primary design set on the 2015 1 Kilo Proof $250 Fine Maple Leaf Forever coin features two maple leaves with stunning enamel finishes. One leaf has a green enamel finish, representing the beauty of the maple leaf in summer. The other features a red enamel finish to represent the change in autumn.
On the reverse side of the coin is the image of the two maple leaves, their stems crossing one another at the bottom of the design. In the background, the rays of the sun emanate out from a central point.
The obverse side of the coin bears the standard image of Queen Elizabeth II. Susanna Blunt, whose image of the Queen appears on all Canadian Maple Leaf coins, designed the obverse image. Pierre Leduc designed the one-of-a-kind maple leaf image on the reverse side.
The Royal Canadian Mint operates facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg, and is responsible for minting these stunning 1 Kilo Proof coins in the Forever Maple Leaf series.
